Location
Monterey, California
Equipment used
Handheld, Canon 1D MK IV with 500mm f/4
Inspired by the ScottishDude's handholding of his 600mm lens, I have decided to try it with its smaller brother and it was not fun. Granted I am only a man of average height and strength. From now on, I'll stick to the 400mm DO. The caption of this photo is used to describe Jaime, not myself.

Outstanding capture of this beauty Michael.

I had to chuckle after reading your post about hand holding the 500..... I was doing just that last Friday when I dropped the camera, lens, with 2x attached, fortunately the 2x took the brunt of the damage and broke into two pieces, camera and 500 are OK, I think I'll stick working with a tripod

Handholding the 500mm or 600mm lens qualifies anyone to be at least a weight lifter, if not Braveheart. Super job on this Hummingbird, Michael.

lol Thank you Mike - no-one said it would be easy and trust me I have a severe neck ache from last weekend ( I'm getting old ;-( )

This it a fantastic capture and I can't wait to have a go with these beauties myself ;-))))

At least you didn't end up in hospital. A superb shot of this beautiful little Hummer. Very nice indeed Michael.

Such beautiful clarity and head detail. You would never guess at how fast these birds hover, it is stopped so amazingly. Stunning photo, first rate :t:
