Black Skimmer
I was out photographing Forster's Terns when I saw a large bird that would occasionally glide past. At the end of the day, I had one chance to capture this wonder passing by, and I got lucky!
Habitat
San Francisco Bay
Location
Hayward, CA
Date taken
29 May 2023
Scientific name
Rynchops niger
Equipment used
Panasonic FZ150
Wow!! Have their numbers been on the rise lately? I spent a year in Hayward 12 years back. Birded Hayward Shoreline once or twice a week all that year and never saw any skimmers. Hoping to see some on my next CA trip, in just over a week now.

This is the first time I've ever seen one!
They are listed as "least concern" so I think they are doing well.
