Black-headed Grosbeak
More often heard than seen, but today we had two immatures and one adult male visiting our suet feeders. They are summer breeders in our area wintering in Mexico. This one is in a female-like plumage but note the pale tips to the primary (flight) feathers indicating they were recently grown and fresh. Adults should be molting now with older flight feathers so I judge this to be a young bird. Also I heard a juvenile calling in our yard recently, so it appears they nested successfully.
