Band Tailed Pigeon
Band Tailed Pigeon
This bird, our largest pigeon (L 14.5") and extremely shy, has been decreasing in numbers due to hunting and loss of habitat. We've never seen them here in our area before. Apparently (according to Sibley's) they're expanding their range. They are quite beautiful, looking more like a large dove, elegant and long necked. We have had 2 pair for several weeks, and yesterday, wow! Six appeared and stayed awhile! I'm so chuffed!

1/180sec, f/5.6, 300mm, ISO-100
