Balancing Act (Tringa Totanus)

I was amazed by this Redshank. It is missing half a shank and was moving and feeding by hopping and moving the stump out and back to maintain its balance. It would be interesting to find out how it was injured, but I guess we'll never know!

Amazing to think it recovered too! Animals can adapt so very well. Fascinating photo!

Lovely capture :t:

They spend quite a lot of time on one leg even when they have two. This one looks in good health. Maybe lost it in a fight .

How lost we will never know but it is amazing these creatures never feel sorry for themselves and just get on with living. May have a job preening/scratching though.

Yeah! I've seen lots of birds missing part of a limb. It's amazing how they manage.

Several puffins, I put down to piratical auks! But I'm wondering with the likes of the Redshanks if it could have been fishing line? As you say I guess we can't really know.

You've got a lovely shot of this one Peter.
