American Kestrel (Falco sparverius sparverius) Some twenty one subspecies have been described while 16-17 are recognized by modern day authors. Only the nominate is mapped for Arizona. Species is sexually dimorphic. Photographed in Tucson, Pima County, Arizona, USA. Situated in the Sonoran Desert at ca. 728 m (2,389 ft) elevation and is ringed by five mountain ranges.
