African Pipit
The most common pipit in the area. Sometimes called Grassland Pipit (or Grassveld Pipit). Taxonomy remains unsettled and is a bit of a nightmare. Formerly considered a race of the widespread "A. novaseelandiae" including Richard's Pipit (A. richardi) and several others. Distinguished from similar species by its white (not buff) outer tail feathers, streaked back and heavily spotted chest. Note the buffy yellow lores. This is presumably the smaller "A. c. annae."
Location
Kunduchi Salt Flats, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Date taken
21 December 2024
Scientific name
Anthus cinnamomeus
I do see the yellow lores. I understand your frustration at taxonomic belongings, in any case you captured this African Pipit very well!
