Best place to buy a Canon Lens

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere. I'm looking to purchase a new 100-400 lens. The online price seems to vary incredibly from around £1500 to £1200. I'm sure some of the lower prices must be from dodgy sources. Any help would be appreciated... Thanks

    ATS 80HD focussing

Interesting to get your replies, thanks. And to have confirmed that the Swarovski focus is very fine and sensitive. I've been used to the double focus wheel of Leica in the past which feels quite different. I'll hope to get used to the Swarovski….

    ATS 80HD focussing

I've just purchased one of these with the 25 x 50 zoom eyepiece. After a few days use I'm finding the focussing incredibly sensitive, i.e. too sensitive. Seems a very fine line between being in and out of focus. Anybody else find this?

    HD Camcorder for videoscoping

Thanks Tom, worked that time. Your set up looks excellent. Those grabs are pretty good quality. Can I ask: I note the grabs are 640 x 480 (96KB) in size. Is that the maximum size of grab you can take? I had been led to believe that using a HD camcorder at the highest setting:"Full HD", you have...

    HD Camcorder for videoscoping

Thanks, can you send the flickr links again as they don't seem to work. Can't seem to see the video either. Can you get successful 'grabs' from your video footage from this set-up. ie: not the 'stills' button on the camcorder but a frame extracted from the video itself?

Poledark, Thanks for your reply. I'll have a look at the SR5E HD Is it possible for you to post a couple of examples - or a link to - some of your 'grabs' obtained with this camera?

    HD Camcorder for videoscoping

I'm trying to find a new camcorder for 'videoscoping" At the moment I have a Panasonic NV-GS44 which has served me pretty well, but is on it's last legs. It's obviously a MiniDV tape camcorder. I'm finding it really difficult to find a suitable replacement. I have been looking at the Panasonic...

    New Birding Camcorder

Thanks very much for your prompt and helpful reply. That sounds like a great bit of kit and considerably more sophisticated than my current Panasonic. If you have time could you answer the following points: Can you play back footage on the camcorder and freeze it frame by frame then take a...

    New Birding Camcorder

I wonder if anyone has advice or can recommend the best camcorder for videoscoping currently on the market. There are just so many out there and with none specifically designed for birding purpose it's all a bit of a minefield. I'm particularly interested in one that will give decent 'grabs'...

Upgrade from 4500 to Fuji F30?

In the end I did go for the A95. It's a nice little camera and the rotatable screen is without doubt an advantage (especially having been used to the CP4500 for so long). You are right Neil, it's not an 'upgrade' for that model and in fact is very similar in operation, BUT it does have the...
