How do you carry all your gear? (1 Viewer)

Well it does have "Swarovski" written on it, Otto!

;)

Actually, I vaguely remember this sack being roundly dismissed because of the price, in a discussion a year or two back.

Nadine,

I've got my eye on the new Tamrac range: I've had a good look at them in a local shop and I'm impressed.

The bag you've linked to is a big thing though (and pretty expensive as a result), though it's available here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-TAMRAC-EX...565935464QQcategoryZ64336QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem for what I think is a very good price.

Ths one would do me though http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-TAMRAC-EX...566458041QQcategoryZ64336QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem and as you can see, is only £70...

Note that these two are UK-only sales.

Hi there, a Carradice "Nelson" saddlebag ( http://www.carradice.co.uk/saddlebags/nelson-saddlebag.shtml ) is just the right size for a Swaro 65mm Angled scope. I use one and have a homemade foam insert in the bag, under the scope, while riding. Enough room for guide books and sandwiches etc as well

and i believe the Carradice "Super C" ( http://www.carradice.co.uk/saddlebags/super-c-saddlebag.shtml ) will hold a 80mm scope

Carradice are a good company that have been around for many years & i'm fairly sure they'd ship to Belgium if you wanted one

Hi Keith!!

Unfortunately I cant find a tamrac dealer in Portugal! So I havent seen the small size...do you think a Leica televid 77, canon Xt, 3 lenses, food and stuff will fit?

thanx

Hi Nadine,

Below are details of the Tamrac importer/supplier for Iberia. Might be worth contacting them as I am sure there will be a retailer in or around Lisbon.

Hi Nadine,

I doubt very much that the bag I mentioned would take that lot - it's more or less the same in size as my Lowepro Microtrekker 200 (give or take an inch), and mine is pretty full with Nikon D70 + 80-400mm Sigma attached, Sigma 70-300mm (dunno why I carry that with me, to be honest) Nikkor 28-80mm, Leica 8x32 binoculars and a few odds and sods.

No way could I get a scope (even my much smaller Zeiss 65mm) in, and I limit the food I carry to a couple of energy bars and a bottle of water...

Today i went to my Swaro dealer to pick up the Extremadura Backpack.
First impressions are OK

When i loaded all my stuff (swato ATS 80; EL 10X42; coolpix 4500; Tripod)
There was still enough space for some food & drinks and a extra fleece jacket.

I use a two weel beachrolley for my tripod and photogear and the rest.
When the light is not good it's also nice to sit in and have a nap.

Hi - have you considered the Lowepro "Street & Field" system which is modular and built up from a chest harness & belt with a wide variety of pouches & bags which clip on.

The downside is that it is expensive, but the upside is if you are on a limited budget or frugal (or tight & broke like me) then the same thing is available at a fraction of the price via good army surplus shops in the form of assault vests & belt kits AND it comes in green or camo for the well dressed birder to blend in.

If you sometimes split your scope/tripod between two people, Manfrotto/Bogen makes a tripod Hand Carrying Strap #458HL ($25. CAD) that works well IMO. See: http://www.manfrotto.com; use model number in search box. On the #055CL/3021, the top leg extensions need to be down a couple of centimetres in order for the fastex-buckled leg strap to fit; the other end of the strap clips into the ring in the hole at the top of the tripod.

If you're carrying a scope/tripod over a shoulder, OP/TECH Tripod Leg Wraps are nice cushioning (although the same functional result can be gained with pipe insulation, duct taped to the legs). See: http://www.optechusa.com/; <Tripod Accessories>. B & H Photo sells them ($31.95 USD) at: http://www.bhphotovideo.com; <Binoculars & Scopes>; <Tripods & Support>; <Tripod Leg Accessories>; <Other Tripod Leg Accessories>.

Hi I find my Lowe Pro Orion trekker II is very adequate. I cna get my camera and lenses in and other bits of gear. The top compartment has enough reoom for a drink. something to eat, and room for spare bits of tat I take with me which i find indispensable.

If I ever need to upgrade to something bigger(probable) in the future I will look at Lowe Pro again.

Best wishes

Trev

when birding, I am rarely more than 2 miles from the car, so just the minima stuff on my neck and shoulder bag

when hiking otherwise, I carry bins, book, water, snacks, camera (very small, zoom lens 20 x) and possibly a monopod for the camera--no scope-- in smallbackpack..plus folding raincoat with hood
