Birdwatching in Finland - Rovaniemi area (2 Viewers)

We are hoping to make this a 2 months northern Scandinavian trip. The cold will be a challenge πŸ˜‚
The Atlantic coast is typically much warmer than inland Finland, but chilly wet winds can be tough nonetheless.

Regarding your earlier question about routes to drive, in general all major roads remain drivable throughout winter. There can be temporary stops of a couple of days after heavy blizzards, but Google maps should be able to tell which route is passable. the official site for Finland is Liikennetilanne and for sweden Trafikverket.se

Thanks. Great to know the road to Varanger is fine in March. Hopefully I can find some info on the Tromso section. Thanks for the food heads up.

We have already booked our Tromso section so have to start there. Fitting in a visa application between Tromso and our 3 month Indonesia- Thailand trip prevents us starting earlier.

You're planning to spend 2 months in N Scandinavia in winter?!
I think boredom might be more of a challenge than the cold!
