    This species is also known as the Pacific Reef Egret (OBC, Robson) but here I follow Clements who calls it Pacific Reef-Heron (IOC goes with Reef Heron without the hyphen). These birds occur in both a dark morph as seen here, and also a white morph which bears a resemblance to the Chinese Egret...

    This one was spotted on a road above Nago, Okinawa in some fairly jungle-like country. At first, I thought it was a Cinnamon Bittern but, something about the colors and Black beak, led me to Night Heron, alon g with some help from the Bird ID Forum.

    To see one is great but to get 2 males on the same tree......amazing! A guy is coming to okinawa from the U.K tomorrow for 3 days only to see these beautiful crtitically endangered birds.............I can't get hold of him to tell them the location! ahhhhhhhh!

    We found three of these Thrushes in Okinawa on my last trip. It was my first time to see this species so getting a decent photo was icing on the cake!

    Female Okinawa Robin. Very pretty bird. The male is stunning however with black neck and a more orangy colour.......unfortunately the only male shots I took are a bit blurry.
