    Lesser Spotted Woodpecker Always believed there should be Lesser Spots in the Goyt Valley but never found one until this morning. Actually seen from the house at the bottom of our drive. Unfortunately by the time I had got the camera and slid down the drive it had gone. Will keep looking.

    Walked above Fernilee Reservoir this morning. 2 male and one female Cuckoo,several Tree Pipits and a flock of 30ish Crossbills which were good to see in decent light for a change.

    The Pied Flycatcher returns! Just stepped outside and the male Pied Fly is preening by the nestbox!! 3rd year running. Just need the female now. Time for a celebratory drink!!

    First Swallow Went to see Ring Ousels at Danebower this am. Saw 1 plus several Wheatears Swallow flew over Long Hill on return journey. The Pied Fly arrived on the 6th last year but no sign yet

    Goshawk A Goshawk flew over Fernilee Reservoir today. Met someone recently who thought he saw one a few weeks ago in the same area.

    Seen the Lapwings whilst driving along Long Hill seemed to be good numbers. Another sign of approaching Spring have heard Curlews calling the last few days just behind the house. Also heard Green Woodpecker calling in fields beyond the old Water Plant. Hoping my Pied Fly is making plans to...

    Pied flys - Part 2? Well it looks like he is starting over.. He spent all yesterday calling and singing and spent a lot of time near a different nestbox recently vacated by Blue tits. This morning a female is with him and they have both been inside the box. So looking good for another brood

    Pied Flys 8.00am and the nestbox is empty. No sign of female or youngsters but the male is around singing and calling and regularly checking the nestbox. Don't know whether hes just confused or planning to start over...

    Pied Fly update The young(don't know how many) are looking out of the nestbox. Mum is feeding non-stop. Dad is noticeable by his absence. Saw him briefly yesterday but its Mum doing all the work
