Very busy at the bird feeder today!

It's been a while, but there's been a few newbies since I last posted. In fact, yesterday alone was quite spectacular. There were the usual suspects, Willie Wagtail, New Holland Honeyeater, Blackbird, Crimson Rosellas (checking out the nest box again). We also had Magpies, Silvereyes, Weebills...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

So they found there own way there? Or was it a combination of the odd bird and captive escapees etc?

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

A female sparrowhawk attack feral pigs? Seems a bit out of their leauge? :P Not a bird, but we had a very scaley visitor this afternoon, I was relaxing outside when a Black Racer snake came slowly sliding by. I watched it for at least 20 minutes, it appeared to be hunting for lizards/frogs and...

lol, 80m starling.... imagine the bird seed you would go through then! Sandhill cranes were back today yet again, they've actually started hanging around much of a day, preening, resting, feeding, 'dancing', it's great to see. This morning, another 3 cranes landed nearby and the current two...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Yesterday and today we had some lovely visitors, a pair of sandhill cranes. And yes, they did feed from the feeders, lol. It was quite a sight to see. This morning we had a male and female cardinal, and throughout the day a couple of morning doves and 3 common ground doves.

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

The mockingbirds have been in full song around here lately. I don't really see them in the garden, but I can hear them perched on the rooftops and in the street out the front. Plenty of black vultures cruising around and perching on the rooftops as well. Today saw the 3 common ground-doves at...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

I was out early in the morning again today, but there wasn't too much around. A pair of common ground doves, and the single mourning dove at the feeder. Otherwise, looking across the lake there was simply a great blue heron and a green heron (first time seeing one in that spot) along with a...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Haven't had much time to watch lately, but the usual common ground-doves, there seems to be 3 mourning doves, one that comes in on its own, and a pair that doesn't get along with the individual. On a short walk today, saw and heard a white-eyed vireo and also a tri-colour heron which seems to be...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

I was actually up early this morning, which I prefer, but I've been sleeping in late without meaning to while on holiday. So I went outside at 7:15am and boy was it already hot and sticky. I sat out there for just under an hour and watched the birds go by. Lots of flyovers of different species I...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Took a look at what was around yesterday while I was swimming in the pool. 2 mourning doves 3 common ground doves 1 osprey cruising the lake and over the house 2 black vultures 1 little blue heron 1 tricoloured heron and some ducks that I couldn't ID.

Managed to ID a new one at the feeder this morning just after I finished eating breakfast outside. A female House Finch. Lifer for me, so I'm pretty pleased about that.

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

The usual two at the feeders while I was eating my breakfast, mourning doves and common ground doves. Across the lake, I could hear two Blue jays, it sounded like they were kicking up a fuss, a minute or so later, I heard a pileated woodpecker join them. Soon after, a red-tailed hawk took off...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Still haven't ID'd a visitor to the feeder from the other day, but the lighting was harsh and the bird was in the shade, viewed through a screen and from a distance, so it's hard to ID, even with a call. Otherwise, there were 3 cardinals, 1 male and 2 females at the feeders two mornings again...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

It's been raining constantly here today and yesterday. Not a break in it. A couple of days ago there were Black vultures circling overhead, and I believe I saw a red-shouldered hawk across the lake, but can't be certain. Yesterday the usual crowd was in view, double crested cormorant, little...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Been a while since I've dropped by here. I'm currently in the US as opposed to Australia, so you'll be getting a different garden report from me :P The house I'm staying at actually backs onto a small man-made lake, so we get a wide variety of birds that we can see from the back door. I've been...

Had a flyover of some brown-headed honeyeaters yesterday or today, don't remember which :P

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Oh I'm always here ;) Just a bit more lurky. That'll teach me to try keeping up with too many things :P Haven't been home for the last week so just stepped outside briefly this morning, saw some white-naped honeyeaters over in the neighbours yard (why always there and not ours?) I've never seen...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Thought I'd drop in with my garden report :D A couple weeks ago we had a small group of fairy wrens flitting through the garden for two days, that was nice. The new holland honeyeaters have been devouring the nectar from the geisha girls. The crimson rosellas have been perching here and there...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Not too much about the place today, or well, there probably has been. But it's only stopped raining for about 15 minutes so I haven't gotten out much. I saw a willie wagtail out on the lawn, hawking for insects. A magpie-lark strutting about on the garden bed. A walk down the road saw the pair...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Yesterday there was a little bit of activity around the place. Had a striated pardalote preening quietly in a tree, after he'd finished, he hopped around a little, calling to the other pardalotes in the neighbours yard before taking off after them. There were new holland honeyeaters feeding on...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Well of course they get some bugs, but I would say it's very different. As the bark is very thin and flaky, you wouldn't get the juicy boring grubs in them as much I suspect. But I'm not really too knowledgable about that kind of thing :P

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Nope, not at all, we missed out on those beauties. :( The closest species are in Indonesia. I find it quite interesting actually, I have sometimes wondered whether the wood of our eucalypt trees isn't suitable for them to hammer or drill (I'm not sure what term is used) into. I have thought...

Ahh, but I would give anything to have woodpeckers in my backyard... because of course we have them in Aus... I wish!

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Speak for yourselves, but unfortunately winter is on it's merry way here. Which means less flowering plants for my birds, less of a need for my bird bath and no more scared kingfishers and rainbow bee-eaters :( The bee-eaters especially because they fly over our house everyday in varying flock...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

It seems like the Sparrowhawk population of the UK is at least doing well ;) Not much happening in my garden unfortunately, nothing was using the bath and I decided that the shrubs were getting too overgrown around it, but I'm still not seeing much activity despite the warm weather. I think part...
