Identification
The adult of this species is in some respects intermediate between adult and juvenile Sun Parakeet. It has pale yellow with some green on crown, nape, slightly more green on mantle but with some yellow, orange in head and underside more restricted and not as strong in color, and never orange on breast and throat. In the hand or very close, dark shaft streaks should be visible on the underside. The two forms do not seem to overlap in range
Similar species
Jandaya Parakeet, Sun Parakeet and Golden Parakeet
Distribution
Endemic to Brazil where found on the north bank of the lower Amazon River in the state Pará.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
It was formerly included in Sun Parakeet.
The scientific name must be changed to maculata according to international nomenclature rules.
Habitat
Open areas with sandy soil.
Behaviour
- Breeding: It nests in palm cavities or hollows in trees.
- Diet: Includes fruits, flowers, berries, seeds and nuts.
This species is described as relatively tame, flying over towns, nesting next to a road, and visiting orchards.
