Family: Thamnophilidae

[edit] Description

Typical Antbirds are mostly (exclusively?) insect eaters. Many, but not all members of the family can be found in the vicinity of Army Ant armies, where they try to catch insects disturbed by the ants. Antbirds typically hop while Antthrushes (family Formicariidae) typically, but not exclusively, walk1.

[edit] Taxonomy

Thamnophilidae is a family in the Order Passeriformes. It is considered part of the suboscines.

It has been proposed that voice is better than plumage for determining species and generic borders in this group.
