Central America: Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama
South America: Colombia, Ecuador
Taxonomy
Formerly considered conspecific with White-cheeked Antbird.
Subspecies
5 Subspecies recognized[1]:
- G. b. olivascens from Honduras to Panama
- G. b. bicolor in Panama and north-western Colombia
- G. b. daguae in central Colombia
- G. b. aequatorialis in extreme southern Colombia and Ecuador
- G. b. ruficeps in northern Colombia
Habitat
They are to be found in the understorey of moist lowland and foothill forests.
Behaviour
Diet
They follow army ant-swarms; the ants stir up insects and spiders in the leaf litter which the antbirds feed on.
Occasionally they have been observed to take small frogs and lizards.
