Lyme Regis Birding - or an even quieter Backwater (1 Viewer)

Took a morning walk inland today - up the Lim, over to Cannington Viaduct and back via ware Cliffs. Plenty of birds to be seen.

A highlight was watching a Treecreeper in an oak tree just below the viaduct. Another was in the undercliff just below Chimney Rock. Several Jays made a splash of colour in the trees.

Dipper on the Lim on the way back.

There is an addition to the Banksy - not sure if it is by the artist; - basically demand refund of £3:50 if you have been charged to see this ..............
Someone was offering 'tours' to see the Banksy.

8 Gannets fishing beyond the yellow marker S of the museum.

Rock Pipits and Pied Wagtails along the seafront

A late posting because of PC problems.

About a week ago this juvenile Razorbill paddling round the Harbour and Cobb area.

Hi Roger,

Was at Lyme Regis last Sunday week.

Only bird of note was one dipper at the bottom end of the Jericho stretch, just as the stream takes a left to go behind private houses.

Note you've not seen the Kingfisher(s) for some time. On the odd ocassion I've been able to get to LR I've noted no kingfishers. thoughts?

Also no wagtails (pied, grey or yellow anywhere) and no rock pipits in the short time I was there (between 0800 and 0900 hrs).

First Dipper I have seen for ages - above Jericho on a rock.

Kingfishers not often seen - usually in the winter when they can be seen on the ledges and around the harbour.

Very few birds - too many people!

BH Gulls building up on Monmouth Beach - and a tattered looking Rock Pipit near the museum. I was tucking into a Mulberry Manor Cheese straw and it came towards me on the wall. I moved away and it flew to my feet, then did an impression of a humming bird, hovering 4" from my cheese straw that was in my hand - not quite daring to go for the prize. After such a performance it didn't go away un-rewarded. Picking up some pieces in its beak if flew off - still feeding a brood?

It knew how to tug at the heart strings

After a couple of days of low cloud, a bright and sunny day - and hot!

Plenty of birds in Lyme today.

Monmouth beach - several Rock Pipits and plenty of Pied Wagtails.

2+ Wheatears
3 Ringed Plovers
6+ Turnstones
The BH Gulls were busy feeding on the flies from the seaweed.

Also a Brimstone moth at Horn Bridge

Quite a spectacle!
We haven't had any House Martins nesting in our eaves since their previous nest fell off when they were starting to rebuild.

Today there were a large number of House Martins flying round our houses and visiting the eaves - hanging there for quite a while before rejoining the flying mass.

Were they checking to see if none were left behind or getting a fix on where they should return to next year?

After about 20 minutes just one or two were left, and finally these disappeared. It was quite a sight.

A couple of days ago a very friendly Rock Pipit landed beside me on the sand below Church Cliffs.
