How's your 2021 list going? (2 Viewers)

A casual stop at a local haunt yesterday (in fact the large "Eagle Rock" boulder of which my Los Angeles neighborhood Eagle Rock derives its name) produced its actual namesake!
152. Golden Eagle

And a few hours out this afternoon mostly traversing the San Gabriel River area:
153. Mountain Chickadee
154. Phainopepla
155. Violet-green Swallow
156. Tree Swallow
157. Hooded Merganser
158. Snow Goose
159. Greater White-fronted Goose
160. Common Gallinule
161. Canvasback
162. Redhead

Jacana, did you get a lifer from your office window? That's awesome! I am guessing you've just moved and gotten straight to work which is what allows you to pick up life bird 2000+ out an office window?

eBird tells me I'm on 158 for the year. #1-85 were a few hours birding in Buenos Aires. #86+ have been in and around Zürich (we've just moved). I've had some embarrassingly common birds as lifers lately, but it's also enjoyable to be picking up new birds at local patches instead of targeted trips to remote parts of your continent. No out-the-window lifers for me though. I think I've only ever pulled that off once, my lifer Eurasian Tree Sparrow out of a hotel window in Kyoto long ago is all I can recall?

Well sort of. The Syrian Woodpeckers I saw a few days ago were not lifers, but I moved to Hungary last summer and I did life tick them from my office window then.

Syrian Woodpecker is a weird one because it quite likes urban environments and as I'd never been in its range before coming here, it was always likely that I would tick it from my work place.

East and South LA birding today, picking up a couple less than common birds locally:
163. Eurasian Wigeon
164. White-winged Parakeet

Picked up a few established non-natives this week who call Los Angeles home:

172. Marsh Wren
173. Sage Thrasher (LA County lifer)

Birding has been practically dead around here lately, possibly the worst start to the year that I’ve ever had.

To get out of this slump, this morning I went to the eastern panhandle of West Virginia to try for some birds that will be common here in the spring, but just aren’t around right now.

Not a bad morning, with five new birds for the year.

65. Northern Harrier
66. Savannah Sparrow
67. Red-winged Blackbird
68. Rusty Blackbird
69. Eastern Meadowlark
