Grimley and Holt (3 Viewers)

Monday morning foggy start at Grimley , Camp Inn , Water Rail in the open for a few seconds before diving into Reed Mace , Swan sitting in same location. 4 Goosander up river. 7 L. Egrets on WW flood [nearly dried up now].
CLP 4 Redshanks and 2 oystercatchers commuting between Church Farm . Curlew South may have landed west shore Unsighted. Sparrowhawk over

Thursday morning Little -ringed Plover through North and 3 Little Gulls CLP.

Friday morning still very little in the way of migration movement although the winds next week are favorable , no Hurindines seen but did see a 1 House Martin Monday. Redshanks displaying , 1 definite pair and 2 more . 7 Mute Swans either nest building or sitting, Canada Goose sitting , Coots nest building and sitting . Cormorant , both parents seem to be incubating . Wigeon , Shovellor and Teal numbers dropping , 1 Pochard left.
Birding farther afield next week so last report for now .

Some new arrivals , first Swallow ,[ extremely late] , Reed Warbler, Whitethroat , Lesser Whitethroat, Cuckoo and Common Sandpiper brings my species total to 100.
1 Wigeon left couple of Shovellor and teal. Small white, Holly Blue, Speckled Wood and Orangetip were firsts' with S. Tortoiseshell, Peacock and Comma also seen.

The hurrindines seemed to have arrived with over 200 Sand Martins , 30+ Swallow and a few House Martins . 2 LRP's were on the West shore with a Snipe and Redshanks and Lapwings mating . Peregrine over, and the first Coot brood of 7.

Ill start with the birds I've missed 23/4 6 Little Gulls, 24/4 Red Kite over and Hobby hawking insects around midday. Sedge Warbler along N. causeway , Chiffchaff nest building far South. Strange duck which didn't stay very long , too large to be a mallard cross.

2 x Redshanks, 3 x Oystercatchers, Little ringed Plover, 20+ Sand Martin, 2 x House Martins and a surprise Curlew were my highlights today.
 
The first Swifts have arrived with a massive influx of Swallows, Sand Martins and House Martins hawking insects . A Brown Hare was seen between Camp Lane and the river. Greylag with a brood of 4 , multiple mallard broods . 5 Yellow Wagtails were on the Western shores sometimes hidden amongst the Juntas for long periods.

What I missed Wheatear Church Farm, Wood Sandpiper West shore CLP , however pair of Whinchat around Hippo pool and Reed Warblers singing in the rain. Cuckoo calling East Shore and a Kingfisher South end with a few Swifts overhead .

The ferruginous duck remains but has moved onto the smaller South pool, Kingfisher also.Wheatear and Stonechats Church Farm.
 
Common Terns seen catching fish in the fishing pools Church Farm. Cuckoos seen and heard in the dead trees of the main pit including last years rufous colored female . [Distant photo i will try and do better]. Multiple Mute Swan pairs have cygnets . Kestrel, Common Sandpiper Redshank church Farm.

Monday morning 2 common terns but always distant seem to be eyeing up a at the moment an occupied Coots nest at the S end. 2 Cuckoo's calling and very active . Little Grebe with 2 chicks S.end and fledged Reed Warblers

Friday10 th June.... very quiet.
Stonechat basking in the morning sun & Great Crested Grebe with her youngster. And a beautiful Painted Lady.

Wednesday night late , 3 Common Terns , Water Rail , 9 L.Egrets, adult Hobby, Oystercatcher and Common Sandpiper. Tawny Owl over my parked car. 500 +Starling in Murmuration [there's over 150 in the photo so my estimation is probably miles out ]. Brown Hare and Badger. Water levels dropping , shoreline appearing, with the next week dry and hot . Waders Maybe , but it is Grimley.

A coupla hours yesterday very very quiet.

Male and fem/juv Stonechat in the field with the dumped onions, 6 adult Little Egret on the old pit and a single Reed and Sedge heard.....
