Grafham 28 Feb 2021; single Great Northern Diver off the Fishing lodge late afternoon.
I spent quite a bit of time looking for them on Sunday too. Flat calm. No sign. This is the first visit this year without seeing one, but then one was reported on RBA in evening by sailing club (your sighting I assume Matthew) - which is the only area I didn't check yesterday - I think its safe to say, though, that we don't have four Divers any longer. This is early for them to depart - they often stay into April (sometimes May).Grafham 27 Feb 2021; a single Common Sandpiper on the harbour boom. No Great Northern Divers seen in brief search in flat calm conditions. A noisy Raven at Marlow point.
Yes, the GND was just off the boom. Ordinarily I would have had some good close-ups but as bird photography is still an illegal act in this country currently I didn’t risk it in front of the rangers who were getting the fishing boats ready. Lets see what happens on the 8th March .....I spent quite a bit of time looking for them on Sunday too. Flat calm. No sign.
