I've copied this over from another thread as it may be better here.

I'm wading through Garrigues and Dean, preparing my own quick reference site guide and have so far noted the following IOC splits or name changes from the field guide.

Blue-throated Toucanet from Emerald Toucanet
Lesson's Motmot from Blue-crowned which has produced several splits.
Mangrove Warbler from Yellow Warbler
Plain Wren is split in to Canebreak Wren, Isthmian Wren and Cabanis's Wren
Cabanis's Ground Sparrow from Prevost's
Green Violetear split and becomes Lesser Violetear
Magnificent Hummingbird race spectabilis becomes Admirable Hummingbird
Paltry Tyrannulet race parvus becomes Mistletoe Tyrannulet.
Crimson-fronted Parakeet is re-named Finsch's Parakeet
Three-striped Warbler split, Basileuterus melanotis becomes Black-eared Warbler
Immaculate Antbird re-named Zeledon's Antbird
Chestnut-mandibled Toucan not recognised, retained under Yellow-throated Toucan
Orange-bellied Trogon not recognised, retained under Collared Trogon

Edit

Western Slaty Antshrike renamed Black-crowned Antshrike
Red-lored Parrot becomes Red-lored Amazon
Mealy Parrot race guatemalae becomes Northern Mealy Amazon
Violet-crowned Woodnymph becomes Crowned Woodnymph
Violaceous Trogon, race caligatus becomes Gartered Trogon
Yellow-margined Flycatcher becomes Yellow-margined Flatbill
Yellow-olive Flycatcher becomes Yellow-olive Flatbill
Royal Flycatcher race mexicanus becomes Northern Royal Flycatcher
Slaty-necked Wood Rail, see link.

As usual, Patrick's site is more than useful for 'what is where' but note the Wood Rail names differ from IOC and all three rather than the two Patrick mentions are on the IOC list for CR?

http://birdingcraft.com/wordpress/2...-the-new-species-on-the-costa-rica-bird-list/

Nightingale Wren gets split with philomela becoming Northern Nightingale Wren and marginatus becoming Southern Nightingale Wren
Sulphur-rumped Flycatcher becomes Sulphur-rumped Myiobius
White Ibis becomes American White Ibis
Thrush-like Schiffornis split, race veraepacis becomes Northern Schiffornis

I'll ammend as I find more, this will take a while!

Thanks Andy for this overview. Many of these are in agreement with the Clements/ebird list, but:
Costa Rican Warbler instead of Black-eared (name difference). By the way, if anyone has a photo it will be very welcome in the BF gallery, we do not have any of this form.
Emerald Toucanet not split
Mangrove Warbler not split
Cabanis's Ground Sparrow not split
Paltry Tyrannulet not split
Crimson-fronted Parakeet name not changed
Orange-bellied Trogon is split

Just to add that my subject line is in error, I refer actually to the names used in Lawson's 'Where to watch' guide. Very annoying when they use different names to those in a field guide but not unique to this one sadly.

White-throated Mountaingem, race cinereicauda split as Grey-tailed Mountaingem and becomes an endemic
Rough-legged Tyrannulet, race zeledoni becomes White-fronted Tyrannulet
Striped Woodhaunter, race virgatus becomes Western Woodhaunter
Black-tailed Flycatcher becomes Black-tailed Myiobius
