    American bushtit

This female has either food or nesting material. The more I learn about these little birds, the more I love them. They work communally to build nests and raise young; will huddle together for warmth. They only seem to be in the western US, so I am very lucky!

Upgrading from Bridge Camera to M43

Since I have moved up to my E-M1 Mark ii and the M.Zuiko 100-400 f5.6-6.3, I have used this setup several times a week. The only way to get better is to keep taking photos. Since my switch to M43, I have photographed a number of species in a variety of conditions, and posted a new daily photo to...

The suburbs I live in are definitely dominated by crows. They have numbers, intelligence, and social coordination. Kinda like people ;). I think this owl is used to this kind of treatment, stressful as it is. It waited for the cover of darkness. Several owls live in town, alongside the crows...

    Great Horned Owl

A flock of crows had cornered this owl in a redwood across the street from my home. I was on the couch and heard the commotion. Luckily I took my camera to capture this beautiful owl. It is reacting to a dive-bombing crow. At dusk, I shot at 1/30 to properly expose. I sat on the ground and...

It was a prize for the bushtit, that is for sure.

This guy landed so close to me, I had to take its portrait. Song sparrows are ubiquitous near water in the springtime where I live. I'm still a fan!

I think this is the only Empidonax that frequents my location, and they lumped the Pacific-slope with the Cordilleran, which makes my job easier 😃 I heard this bird's short whistle, and I waited for a moment. Luckily, it landed about 4 meters away at eye level, with no branches in the way!
