Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus)

A flock of crows had cornered this owl in a redwood across the street from my home. I was on the couch and heard the commotion. Luckily I took my camera to capture this beautiful owl. It is reacting to a dive-bombing crow. At dusk, I shot at 1/30 to properly expose. I sat on the ground and braced myself to get a few sharp shots out of dozens.

Splendid behavioural picture of this beautiful owl. Lucky you. Interesting details too.
Crows can be really nasty birds. They are not afraid of other birds. The Fieldfares here attack them together to protect their nestlings.

The suburbs I live in are definitely dominated by crows. They have numbers, intelligence, and social coordination. Kinda like people ;). I think this owl is used to this kind of treatment, stressful as it is. It waited for the cover of darkness. Several owls live in town, alongside the crows. The owls rule the night, and the crows the day.
