  3. Two Kingfishers

    Two Kingfishers

I think those two were quarraling over their territory. This is not a wallhanger but a very unusal snap. I had only two chances to frame them both in one photo and I'm lucky I did.

    Woodpecker in flight #2

Here's #2. I usually shoot at faster shutter speeds but as light was dim I shot at 1/2000th of a second. Worked out well, I think. I quite like the motion blur. Makes for a certain dynamic. Hope you like it, too!
  9. Woodpecker in flight #1

    Woodpecker in flight #1

I watched two great spotted woodpeckers in the woods today. Photographing birds in flight in a forest can be quite a challenge. Difficult light, tricky backgrounds and branches and twigs everywhere... So, I consider myself lucky to have taken these pictures. Here's #1 then. I hope you like it.
  10. Peregrine Egret attack

    Peregrine Egret attack

I was looking at the snow covered mountains through my 500mm lens when a Peregrine appeared right in the middle of the viewfinder far, far away. I followed it as it accelerated closer and realised a poor Great Egret was casually cruising over the water. It seemed the falcon had the egret in its...
  11. Active Morning

    Active Morning

Finally was able to get out this morning and get some shots at one of my favorite wetland areas. The sunrise was beautiful with so much bird activity! This was one of my favorite shot of today with all the birds in the air and the solitary Anhinga in the tree top!

    Feasting on a Pagoda

This female Ruby-throated hummingbird was enjoying her breakfast right outside my kitchen. I was able to catch this and a few other shots of her sipping from this pagoda plant.

    Hair-raising Fly Over

After getting a few still shots of this American Bald Eagle and waiting over an hour for it to leave its perch, I gave up and moved on to another area of interest. After I got about a quarter mile away I turned to see if it was still there and just then it took off and flew directly toward me...

  16. Ring-billed Gull

    Ring-billed Gull

This gull is the first "Bird in Flight" photo I ever shot. Funny that the quality isn't really up to par, but I like the way the sun backlights the picture and plays through the feathers turning the photo to black and white. Yep! This is my "Gateway" bird, the one that...
  17. Bald Eagle

    Bald Eagle

This shot was taken from a bluff along the shore of Lake Michigan in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, a federal park. This is the only time I have been above these magestic birds.
