Where to go in Southern Ontario (1 Viewer)

Hi, I am going to be visiting Canada in August to see relatives. Would love to see some iconic birds and wildlife while we are there. We will be based in Oakville, near Hamilton, any suggestions?

Hi Lois,

I just moved to Oakville from Boston. I don't really know all the birding areas well yet, but this might help you:

http://www.ofo.ca/hotspots/includes/Hamilton.pdf

You may want to check out these two web sites as well: www.ofo.ca and http://www.hamiltonnature.org/

If you're interested in the birds of the boreal forest (Spruce Grouse, Grey Jay, Boreal Chickadee, etc.) you might want to take a road trip toward Algonquin Provincial Park.

Really depends on what you're looking for - for warblers etc. the North shore of Lake Erie is very good, and there's still loads in the Hamilton/Toronto area, along with various waterbirds (not the best time of year though). For wildlife in general - Algonquin park is undoubtedly the best spot to go, but is too far to really do in a day.

Thanks for the advice, I will check out the websites.
We hope to get out to a friends cabin, but not sure where it is yet. Looking forward to seeing lots of new birds and sharing it with my kids

Some fall warblers will be in different plumage. The Lake Ontario shoreline
in Oakville will be your best bet.
