This afternoon I caught up with the first Avocet for the year at #uptonwarren, with two Chiffchaffs there also nfy. An overflying Collared Dove was new for my Upton year-list. Finally, a new darvic-flagged Curlew for the reserve, yellow Y5, joined seven others for the best count of the year so far.

The Curlew sporting yellow flag Y5 was ringed as a chick in the Avon Valley at Bredon's Norton in June 2022 as part of the WWT Severn & Avon Vales Curlew Project. Since then it has been seen on the River Severn mudflats at Guscar Rocks before then being regularly noted at Slimbridge WWT.

MOORS: Shelduck (3), Pochard (9), Tufted Duck (26), Teal (10), Gadwall (3), Shoveler (2), Oystercatcher (2), Curlew (1), Lapwing (32), Mute Swan (8), Little Egret (1), Cormorant (13), Chiffchaff

FLASHES : Avocet (2), Curlew (7), Shoveler (12), Teal ( 2), Shelduck (4), Skylark (2).

SAILING POOL: G C Grebe (2), Tufted Duck (21).

Mealy Redpoll along the River Salwarpe from the public footpath with 11 Lesser Redpoll this morning as per Gert.

Moors this morning - east path flooded but causeway ok. Wellies needed! 3 Oystercatcher, 7 Pochard, 2 Bullfinch, c100 Stock Dove, 2 Kingfisher, 5 Little Egret left of hide where flooded, Mistle Thrush. The public footpath along the Salwarpe is worth a walk although very muddy with Treecreeper, 3 Siskin, 11 Lesser Redpoll and 1 Mealy Redpoll with them, Grey Wagtail and up to 4 Chiffchaff.
Flashes - 2 Oystercatcher, 10 Avocet still, and an extra Curlew - 9 in total but none tagged. 4 Shelduck. Another Chiffchaff, 2 Skylark and 2 Roe Deer to fields best of the rest

16 Avocet at the Flashes this morning, 2 Oystercatcher, 7 Curlew, 4 Shelduck
Moors first winter Common Gull, 2 Oystercatcher, c30 Siskin main highlight. Good to see 3 Bullfinch at the flashes and 2 at Moors Pool so hopefully the population improving.
