Short tailed or zone tailed hawk costa rica December (1 Viewer)

Unsure if it is juv z-t or adult dark morph s-t

It's not a Zone-tailed. It does look like a Short-tailed Hawk to me, but I'm not familiar with what other species live in Costa Rica. The wrist ie. carpal patch appears to be mottled with white spots, the dark tips of the wing contrast heavily with the pale window in the primaries, and the tail is not boldly banded. These combination of characteristics all point away from Zone-tailed, but they do align well for Short-tailed.
