You could very well be right, size very similar, ànd much more widely distributed around the Med. Its flight profile is a much better match too.I'm wondering if the Bittern is more likely to be a heron spp? It looks quite long tied and dagger billed, and in combination with (possibly) an all dark uncontrasting appearance I wonder if it may be Purple heron?
