Norfolk birding (4 Viewers)

Hi all

I have noticed that Norfolk pages have been very quiet recently apart from my daily postings from the reserve.
Just wanted to check and see if people are still finding them useful, don't want to be filling up the forum pages if they are not?

Paul

If it wasn't for your posts on here Paul, I think this thread would just dry up and blow away. There must be more birders (resident and visiting) out birding in Norfolk than most counties, but hardly anyone bothers to put info on here.

So please do keep posting Paul, it's good to see someone prepared to take a couple of minutes on here - thanks.

I read the Norfolk pages most days, including your entries Paul although Twitter is my preferred medium for sending & receiving news as it is instant.

Thanks for the reply. I try to keep bird news going through the reserve or my personal twitter feeds where possible during the day and then post a roundup at the end of the day

I'm briefly coming out of 'BF retirement' to say that I enjoy Paul's informative daily posts: I left BF for the same reason many other 'old timers' did: too much abuse and trolling.
These days many people keep their own blogs so that they can instantly delete / block abusive comments.

If for no other reason, these posts show that birds have a priority at this North Norfolk bird reserve.

Titchwell November 22nd

Today's highlights

Long tailed duck - an impressive 40 offshore this morning
Velvet scoter - 10 offshore
Black throated diver - 1 reported offshore
Scaup - female offhsore
Red necked grebe - 1 offshore
Great Northern diver - 1 offshore
Snow bunting - 12 on beach
Water pipit - 1 on fresh marsh

We are raising the water levels on the fresh marsh to help with managing the vegetation on the breeding islands. Flooding the vegetation suppresses growth creating ideal nesting conditions.
While the levels are high we hope to have specialist contractors onsite to cut some of the encroaching reed that we are unable to reach.

Water levels will be lowered again for the Christmas break.

Paul,
I've been travelling to distant parts these last few months (Central Europe, UAE, Australia), but when I get a decent wifi connection, I always check this forum to see what you've reported - it keeps me in touch, which I find important. Thanks, Paul for the effort you put in on this forum, for I know how busy you always are. It's much appreciated!

I have been unable to get out birding much of late due to other things taking over. Titchwell is one of my favourite birding spots (it is one of the main reasons why I moved to Norfolk) so I like the fact that your updates allow me to at least keep in touch with what is happening there.

So, is the Isabelline Wheatear still present at Burnham Dunes? (A message was on Birdguides this morning stating it was still on the beach there.) If so, has it been hiding out for the past 2.5 weeks, or is it just that no-one's been looking for it? Quite intriguing!

On the beach just N of Gunhill late morning.
I left it on the beach and went to have a look around Gunhill and about an hour later returned but couldn't find it again on beach but several dog walkers etc in the area.
I had a look at the area towards the boardwalk where it had previously frequented but couldn't find it and I carried on E towards to pines.
