Malaysia - Taman Negara - Malaysian Blue Flycatcher (1 Viewer)

I'll have to take your word for that Dave, I know what you mean about the flanks but the secondary and primary base edges look very blue to me with only the primary tips brown, glaucicomans is usually the whole wing?

I agree with you that the amount of blue apparent in the wing looks excessive for Chinese Blue, Mark. According to Wells, glaucicomans should have "Primary coverts and flight feathers sooty, outer webs of tertials and inner secondaries blue, the rest only finely edged blue, and colour retreating behind emargination of the outer primaries". Even this seems generous, comparing it with photos here and here (same bird), and here (which however, may be a first summer?). On the other hand, can a Malaysian Blue ever show this much brown on the flanks? I don't know. Are there any other photos of this bird? Perhaps it is not safely identifiable from this one image...
