Juvenile Fairy-wren species? Manguri Halt for Coober Pedy (1 Viewer)

These images were taken from the train at Manguri Halt, Coober Pedy South Australia in October 2016, but I can't ID the species, perhaps because of the scruffy feather state. The relatively heavy bill may just be due to the juvenile growth stage, and does not seem typical for any fairy-wren, but the absence of face markings eliminates fieldwrens and emu-wrens and the tail structure comes back to fairy-wrens. On distribution, that leaves Splendid Fairy-wren Malurus splendens ssp emmoturum or the nominate of White-winged Fairy-wren M. leucopterus. None of the books I've consulted give enough information. I ruled out Purple-backed Fairy-wren (formerly part of Variegated) M. lamberti ssp dulcis because of the lack of black lores.

Any ideas?

Immature or female White-winged Fairywrens.
No other Fairywren looks so 'plain'.

Many thanks! :t:
I've tried for some time to work out the ID with any degree of certainty. I've see adult birds several times, but those in my pictures rang no bells...
