Hi All

Catching up on some pictures from the summer and came across this hoverfly.
I recall, I took a couple of arty-farty shots from the side, went to take some more diagnostic
pictures and it disappeared. Flew off like a bullet!

I think it is one of the Criorhina but I could easily be wrong.

The thing that struck me was a very dark face.

Could some please take a look and ID for me?

Yours, Gareth

Ok, it's not Criorhina.................... The aristae are plumose so that rules our Criorhina.

Which I think leaves me with Volucella bombylans, but the face doesn't seem right to me.

Can someone take a look please and let me know what they think?

Yours, Gareth
