Gull - Poland (1 Viewer)

Good evening

I saw this gull today in the local harbor area.. Unfortunately I couldn't get closer and the gull didn't move for a long time..

It was larger than a black head gull, somewhere between a Common gull, which I believe it could be, and a Herring gull.. But a juvenile Common Gull seems marked spotted/dark on the front, on the pictures I can find and it doesn't look like a juvenile Herring/Caspian Gull in any way either.. There is also something about the bill that confuses me, quite long and thin..

Can anyone help with an ID?

I agree with you, its a 1 cy Common Gull. Broad sharp black band to the tail with an otherwise totally unmarked tail excludes larger Gull species. Nearly uniform dark brownish greater coverts, lack of pale spots on inner primaries and flesh bill-base excludes most similar Mediterranean Gull.

Hi Alexander

Thanks for the clarification.. I still have a lot to learn about gulls, so thanks for your explanation
