Well...its that time of year again. Summer is starting to come to a close and fall is just around the corner. I really love this time of year because bird activity seems to bounce back from an uneventful lull during the "dog days of summer". Vireos, Warblers, Flycatchers, and many other birds begin to gorge themselves on grapes, pokeberries, and other ripe fruit. Feeder activity is also starting to increase. For the first time in months I have seen Gold Finches visiting my feeders. These petite birds which are a brilliant gold during the breeding season have already morphed into their dull winter plumage. I am eagerly waiting for the return of my Red-bellied Woodpeckers and Chickadees. Winter seems like an eternity away...
Other Sightings of Interest
This past week I found a 2 and a half foot Kingsnake, only the third one I have ever found. In addition I am sure I saw a Black and White Warbler (a lifer) but I did not get a good look so I can not count it...drat! :-O
