Egyptian geese? (1 Viewer)

Heard the most strange screeching sound above our house this morning. Described sound to my husband as an electronic, flying demented duck!
Few minutes later looked over the road to see these two on the roof.
Not the best photo. Just grabbed a quick point and shoot camera to use for id as I was unsure what they were from a distance. I imagine they were courting judging by the racket they were making! They look a little different from those I've seen before. Will someone please confirm? Thank you

Happy to confirm they are Egyptian Geese. I remember starting a birding trip in Uganda and hearing a weird call from high in a tree; eventually found the angle to confirm it was an EG!

Most geese are vocal fliers including Egyptian Geese. One guide in the Kruger National Park in South Africa said it was because they were scared of flying. His people say that Egyptian Geese are cowards and that is why they make so much noise just before take off and during flight!

Hi, glad you have an ID. Just wanted to remind you that per forum rules, you need to include a location in the thread title. It helps a lot of folks to know where the bird is in order to help. Thanks.
