Last week I was enjoying a stroll on the hills around Mortehoe North Devon when I walked over a ridge and surprised a cock pheasant and what I thought were two hen pheasants which were standing together.
To my surprise as the birds took off a cock and a hen pheasant flew off (in the usual crazed flapping of wings style) and the third bird flew away with much more style as it was in fact a Buzzard.
Was this a case of local residents socialising on the hill or just chance that the only three creatures in a large field were standing together within feet of each other?
