New Chiffchaff Details

In the area of Hartshill sewage works today I saw a Chiffchaff of the plumage as labellled abientinus in the New Collins guide. With new information this bird could be an abientinus (however they are deemed at present to be rare in Britain in winter) a Western Siberian Chiffchaff or a pale collibita ( subspecies that breeds in Britain), it called like Collibita and so do abientinous and Western Siberian Chiffchaff.
Eastern Siberian Chiffchaffs we know as tristis and fluvescents (which have distinct call notes and song).More details will be published on the internet shortly.

Golden Plovers near Hockley Heath

Near Hockley Heath early afternoon, I twitched 500+ Golden Plover in the sheep pasture along Cut Throat Lane in-between Arnold's Wood and Big Spring Coppice. Mike Inskip had a lot more there though when he first found them earlier today. This flock is more usually seen on the WMids side of the county boundary.

2 Siberian Chiffchaff at Ladywalk

Alan Dean identified the 2 Siberian Chiffchaff on plumage only, he never heard them call in 2 and half Hours whilst he was present.
Both birds with identical plumage (pale) but have good ''Brown and Buff'' components in their plumage hue's and are fairly typical.
Hopefully we should see some good pictures of these birds if someone puts some time in or gets lucky.

Siberian Chiffchaff

Alan Dean said occasionallly a Siberian Chiffchaff will use alternative calls such as a ''sweeoo'' style call less inflected than the ''sweeoo'' call given sometimes by Common Chiffcaff. These '' sweeoo'' type calls can be heard on Birding Frontiers site search Siberian Chiffchaff.

Not sure where your going with this John? Iv'e spent probably 5 days on site & only 1 day when i've not heard any call & when they have its been just a typical tristis call no alternative call! Both my blogs now have record shots of 2 of the 3 birds present.........
