Bausch & Lomb Type EE binoculars; WW1. (3 Viewers)

Hi.
This is my pair of vintage WW1 US Army Signal Corps Bausch & Lomb Type EE binoculars, 6x30 "stereo". They are clear and functional, with original leather case and neck strap. I have the case strap too, but I removed it for preservation and storage; the straps did not survive often as they were broken or removed for the case to be worn on a waist equipment belt. Production of these binoculars started in 1916 and ceased in 1918. They were the standard issue binocular, along the type E, upon the US entry into WW2, and were used along the other "newer" variations of binoculars issued during the war. This particular case is marked with initials and an officer's service number, likely from WW2 service. Need to do more research on that. Enjoy the pictures.

These binoculars were produced by B&L, Weiss, Talbot Reel and the US Naval Gun Factory Optical Shop.

Hello,

I also have a US Army Signal Corps model EE binocular. Mine was made by Bausch & Lomb. The top of its leather case, which lacks its original strap, has a compass marked "Bausch & Lomb." The model EE had a reticle, or graticule, probably identical to WWII US Army binoculars, but mine was removed. The E model did not have reticle. One can find examples which were updated for use in WWII with coated optics. Does yours have coated optics?
At one time, I had a model E, made by Talbot Reel, but I gave it to my nephew.

Stay safe,
Arthur Pinewood

Hi.

Mine still has the ranging reticle, old style; I suspect these have not being rebuilt since they upgraded to a new style of reticle in the process. As of coatings, I have no idea. There is no indication of coating decal being applied at some point, at least on the outside.

I have seen examples of the case you mention. I suspect both were issued with these. I did see a nice clean Talbot Reel example for sale cheap not long ago but I did not buy it.

Thank you kindly for the reply. I hope you enjoy your Type EE as much as I enjoy mine.

Eddie
