Checker-throated Stipplethroat usually is shown with pale eye in field guides. However, Birds of the world states that "Juvenile has grey iris, becoming pale yellow in first-year plumage" and "iris golden, becoming rich chocolate-brown in older birds". Does that mean this is an older bird of that species, or am I completely off? Precise location is access road to Canopy Tower, Canal Zone between Summit and Gamboa, Panama.

The images I see show the female with more reddish wings and the dots orangey. But maybe a young male?

The most similar one I can seem to find in Macaulay is this one

Perhaps we can't say definitively. But looks clear it's that species. I detect reddish elements in the wings etc of your photo: suspect lighting / sensor means they're not as bright or pronounced as we might expect.
