  1. Just landed

    Just landed

We had a couple of Yellowhammers around that afternoon, this one landed just as I was looking for something else, right in line with my camera LOL
  2. Turbine and Kestrel

    Turbine and Kestrel

This Kestrel seems to be either getting cooled off or is trying to create a breeze to make the turbine blades move LOL Sorry it's a bit oof, but that turbine is about a mile away, don't really know how far the Kes is. One thing I'd been looking forward to with this camera was trying to take...
  3. Spectator

    Spectator

In the grass beside the track where the Skylark was enjoying his bath, was a Yellowhammer, I'm sure he was wondering what was going on. It had been a while since I'd seen them on the patch, so that day was sure turning into a red letter day LOL I've a feeling they may be recovering from the...
  4. Dust bathing Round 4

    Dust bathing Round 4

No, you didn't miss rounds 2 and 3, I've omitted them!! The Skylark kept up his dust bathing for ages, gradually getting closer to us. It really was so entertaining to watch. This picture is towards the end of his last go at it. Saturday Fun
  5. Invasion

    Invasion

I could have given you a picture of a single Northern Wheatear, but this was the first time I'd managed to find 4 together on my patch; think they'd just arrived. We were certainly being treated that day, what with yesterday's Skylark too. Remember that big black hole in the dyke (wall)... it...
  6. Bliss

    Bliss

We had a wonderful session on my Up the Hill patch a couple of weeks ago. Not just one but two pairs of Wheatears were just arrived and this Eurasian Skylark spent ages enjoying a dust bath! I really liked this pose I captured. Saturday Fun Sorry to be so late with this, as I was half way...
  7. Nuts are old hat!

    Nuts are old hat!

This Great Spotted Woodpecker seems to prefer having fatballs on his diet today!! I think they must be nesting a bit away from the feeding station, as I've not seen either of them for a couple of weeks now. Unless, of course, they're coming when I'm not there.
  8. Hungry

    Hungry

I don't often get pictures of Great Crested Grebe, at least not good ones, but this guy was a little closer than normal. He'd caught a huuuge fish and seemed to be having trouble swallowing it, but it disappeared eventually. Anyone able to ID it? Saturday Fun
  9. Shy

    Shy

What a thrill it was to see a Yellowhammer after such a long time; think it was way back in May last year since one had visited the Mause feeders. Didn't give much of a view though, did he LOL Saturday Fun
  10. Among the stingers!

    Among the stingers!

Sometime in April I thought I caught sight of a flash of yellow near the feeders but it was so quick I really wasn't sure what it was. A few days later and the mystery was solved when this Yellowhammer suddenly showed himself and stopped to feed on the fallen seed. He was in amongst the...
  11. Colonising?

    Colonising?

Also on the lochan were Whooper Swans... yes, no less than three of them! In the past they would occasionally be seen there, for an odd day or two, but only singletons. A rather pleasing sight really.
  12. A male multi-tasking????

    A male multi-tasking????

My friend and I spent an extended lunch break at my old patch "Up the Hill" on Sunday, quite a bit to be seen but this was a record shot taken through the windscreen of a couple of Mallards. It wasn't until I downloaded the pictures that I realised one was scratching his neck. A bit of...
  13. B

    LA County 4/1/23

Woke up bright and early to drive down towards Pasadena today. One of the best birding trips Ive had in a while, more than happy with it. Here’s the species list for the day Cackling goose-nice find, I’m always happy to see these Canada goose Northern shoveler Mallard Ring necked duck...
  14. At last

    At last

I've rather neglected my local pictures of late, sorry. Back at the end of April, I saw the first Hedgehog in the garden for years, here he is foraging on the steep bank at the back of my flat where the bird feeder is. I started putting food out for him but haven't seen him again; the food was...
  15. MaxesTaxes

    Small wader bird - NL

Hi everyone, I saw this cute wader on the Zandmotor beach in the Netherlands a few days ago (2nd of April). My best ID right now is Dunlin, Calidris alpina, mainly due to the black rump (see blurry in flight photo). However, I find that its plumage is not brown enough for summer plumage, and...
  16. Hmmm .. that's what he thinks of being photographed

Hmmm .. that's what he thinks of being photographed

I'd got a hanging tub of peanut butter - you'd have thought he would be a bit more appreciative, wouldn't you. Still struggling a bit with my laptop, just managing to do things between times it decides it will let me!
  17. Just before I left

    Just before I left

I'd just about given up hope of seeing a Long-tailed Tit come in and we were just discussing whether or not it was time to go, when plop!! So it wasn't time to go LOL Sorry folks... having awful problems with my laptop today. Taken me from 8am to try and get a browser to run. Hopefully this...
  18. Tit fest

    Tit fest

Well, that doesn't happen often for me LOL Get three different tit species in one image! Shame I couldn't see the Great Tit's face, wasn't it
  19. Not so common....

    Not so common....

Chaffinches are not so commonly seen at these new feeders but he looks pretty comfortable tucking into the seeds there.
  20. Feeders don't interest him....

    Feeders don't interest him....

.... still likes to eat though! Dunnocks seems to prefer eating on the ground, this one was foraging around underneath the feeders, picking up what everyone else had dropped (including me!)
  21. Loving his nuts...

    Loving his nuts...

.... and keeping himself shaded from the strong spring sunshine. I was hoping he'd move round a bit but no such luck.
  22. On the fly

    On the fly

I don't often see Robins at the hanging feeders, but this one did try. Sorry his wings are a bit blurry though.
  23. These are MINE (SF)

    These are MINE (SF)

She really seems to be making that statement, doesn't she!! Not my best picture of a GSW, but I liked that pose with her showing some attitude.
  24. Ready to tuck in

    Ready to tuck in

Back at the Craighall feeders. Topped up the nuts, seeds, fatballs and hung a half coconut. Before I got back to the car a Great Tit had landed.
  25. Slopey

    Slopey

The Siskins were becoming very welcome regular visitors. This is the male at the top of the bank where my pole feeder is, you can get a bit of an idea of how steep it is in this shot. TTTW
