Terrible memory Phil, far too addled, but I remember the GBBG flew over when a Brent Goose was on site on the 31/12/2011. Having not seen either at UW, it was ironic one dropped into the Moors next morning. Any road up, have a good one :t:

Can't believe how much snow there is lying around still..fields in the Trimpley area still have significant snow coverage. No sign of any let up in the next week either..bleak, very bleak :C

From the Causeway between the 2 Moors pools yesterday, around 12.15 looking south over the main Moors pool I picked up an interesting raptor. Unfortunately it was wholly silhouetted but the shape and general jizz made me fairly confident it was not a Buzzard, more Harrier like, a large bird but...

This time last year, I'd seen Black Redstart and a few Wheatears locally, as well as Chiffy..it feels like hard going at present, forcast for the next few days hardly encouraging, and little passing through Portland Bill. The winter of 2011 has had hell of a run.

There were loads of them in Hyde Park a couple of weeks ago, must be a good population to study.. Probably won't belong before they go in the litlle black book for the gun brigade, will need something to aim at after they have finished with badgers, foxes, Ruddy Duck,Cormorants, Keith the Seal...

Cheers for this Dave, last years publication " Worcestershire's Mammals" by WBRC states there are only 60 records of this species, and only recorded in 6 10Km squares. Rosemary Winnall has been undertaking a recent project near Bewdley, going through 18 years worth of Owl nest box contents ...

Nice one :t: From my " Tracks and Signs of the Birds of Britain and Europe " (an excellent book) I am going with Barn Owl pellet. Attended a talk on Water Shrews the other day, apparently the 3 mainland species ( Pygmy,Water, and Common ) are also called "Red toothed Shrews " as the tips of...

Cats should be kept in at night anyway, that's recommended not least because they are more likely to get run over in the dark. Ours has only been out for 1 whole night when he was locked in a neighbours garage ! Driving home tonight crawling in the traffic through Hagley I noted that virtually...

As you say Dave, I think the problem is when you get one with a taste for it, and measures are not taken. To balance things out mine is nearly 17 and has caught 0, my neighbours cat is 21 and likewise, other neighbours cat died recently aged 17, again no criminal record. Thats a lot of cat years...

I saw those those figures too. However, I've not seen the actual science behind them so would reserve judgement of their accuracy. Not being flippant but I have seen dozens of Sprawk kills in the last few years compared to cat's...but I'm not signing up to Songbird survival 8-P You could also...

Increasing urbanization, increasing population, wildlife unfriendly farming, climate change, pollution. I'm sure all are playing a factor. Unfortunately there is only a will to scratch the surface of these issues by politicians. As for cats, I don't really buy into that, and obviously your...

I remember an unproductive vist to Upton this time last year. After I left I drove down Swan Lane. One of the Fields there had RedWings, Fieldfares and mistle Thrushes totalling well over 100. Superb sight. I think because Upton is watched pretty thoroughly most days by some very good...

If I could just encourage others to step up and sign this. I know many people visit the area for their annual 'tick' of Corn Bunting. The area in question is where The Ring Ouzel dropped in last Spring, as well as Whinchat and Red starts, which were all well 'twitched'..It takes much less time...
