    Nikon P5100

Cheers, thanks for the info. The only problem I find in reducing the zoom is vignetting, (if that's the right term) and I have to zoom through to avoid this. I'm guessing you mean to zoom and crop later on the PC. I will try this. What's best, spot or centre-weighted? Any other tips for...

    Nikon P5100

Help I haven't read through all thread so apologies if previously covered: 1) When I lock the focus and it goes turquoise instead of red,why do I still get some blurred images even when taking something that isn't moving. I know there's heat haze etc. but how can it lock the focus, but still...

What settings would you use on a very frustrating Gry Phalarope bobbing about in the water so quickly you couldn't lock focus and shoot. It was a very bright day with a generally pale bird. I experimented with a number of settings on A, S with different shutter speeds and apeture settings but...

    Nikon P5100

I've attached the eagle-eye optic zoom to the P5100 - waiting for a chance to try it out as an alternative to digiscoping using the scope. I'm hoping to use it on auto focus rather than single auto focus, where there's nothing between camera and bird. Where I think it might work is for birds...

Please can you refresh the memory on the settings for A or direct me to the relevant thread number. Thanks.

    Nikon P5100

Based on this, why use manual? If I use A, and select the widest aperture it allows, the camera, as you say calculates the appropriate shutter time. Surely this is better than manual where the bird is likely to have flown before I hit on the right shutter speed? Or...use S and let the camera...

    Nikon P5100

Thanks but I'm still confused. If depth of field doesn't matter and shutter speed does, wouldn't we better using S rather than A so we can control the shutter speed better? Or as others have said why not use manual - always have the lowest possible f. amount and work up and down the shutter...

I've also been guilty of not actually reading the literature, which I've now done. The one thing I still don't get is the f reading. Why is a lower F reading better? I can understand that a faster shutter speed would help to freeze action and make things sharper, and can also understand that...

    Nikon P5100

One thing I'm really struggling with is focusing on the subject when something else (grass, or a twig etc.) is in front. Even if I go to spot and aim the spot at the subject, the grey focus area diverts off to somewhere else, usually the nearest thing. How can I avoid this? Also, one peculiar...

    Nikon P5100

Summary - Please There's loads to read on this thread - all good. However, would it be possible for someone to summarise the optimum settings for the P5100. I'm not a photographer, and I'm really struggling to progress beyond automatic - mental block. It's not so much the settings such as...

    Nikon P5100

I've got the same kit, except I don't use the 20-60X for photography. I have a smaller wide angle lens that works muvh better. I've never really tried the zoom on a low mag. I think you'd be struggling on a high mag. to get sharp images. In terms of bolting it all together, the Eagle-eye...

    Nikon P5100

Great pics. What actual mode/setting do you use it on? I've hit a mental block now where I'm relatively happy with the shots I'm getting on auto, and as I usually have limited time for birding, and am usually chasing some rarity, I find I just shoot in auto and am probably limiting my...

    Nikon P5100

Nick, what does Paintshop Pro allow you to do? I've currently got some software that lets me add sharpness, and alter brightness/contrast etc. (Adobe I think). Am I missing out in terms of how I might enhance my pictures? For example I've seen where people can scrub out a wire fence in front...

    Nikon P5100

Thanks Malc, I'm a lot clearer after that, but...doesn't automatic do this for you?
  21. L

    Nikon P5100

Hi Malc. Thanks for this. The bit I don't get and never really have with the three digital cameras I've owned (although results have not been bad - but could be better) is the "aperture priority, and setting as high an aperture as possible." I find everyone speeds over the bit that probably...

UR-E20 - Help Wanted The Nikon site says the UR-E20 is an accessory for the P5100. It doesn't fit! Am I missing something?
