    Glare Monsters!

I usually get rid of binoculars if the glare annoys me. I have forgotten how many. I most often use Kowa 8x33 and 10x33 because the eyecups fit me. The 8x42 HX Steiner, now with rolled-down winged eyecups, is heavy and sits on a desk near a window. But I am also content using 10x42 Conquest...

    Glare Monsters!

I rolled down my Steiner winged eyecups. Just not comfortable. By the way, may I add that I enjoy reading contributions from maligned DENCO, as well as the spirited exchanges.

Kowa Genesis XD 8x33 or Kowa BD II 8x42 XD?

Worth noting is that the minimum IPD of the various KOWA lines differ. The eyecups differ. You have to try them out.

    Zeiss Conquest HD 10x42 nightmare

On request, Zeiss will supply free extended eyecups for Conquest binoculars. I do not know if Zeiss does this for SF.

    Zeiss Conquest HD 10x42 nightmare

My Conquest 10x42 has been great, so far, after two years of moderate use. I immediately replaced the eyecups with longer ones (free), and I seldom use the binoculars with glasses, so the eyecups stay extended. To me, the binoculars are bright, sharp, and a bit heavy for all day carry. But...

SFL 8x40: impressions after 20 years with Swarovski EL's

I find the Kowa 8x33 and 10x33 work well for me. I also find that SFL chatter is dwindling to crumbs of inanity sooner than I expected. The x30 cannot generate the same universal and sustained admiration that the x40 did. Physics.

    Binoculars that take pictures

After more use, it is not enough fun (or more utility than a phone camera) to be worth the price. Image quality is poor, battery life is short, and importing photos is frustrating. Not recommended.

    Binoculars that take pictures

Best Buy is selling Canon Power Shot Zoom kit (+micro SD card and PD charger) for $250. I bought it in Black. Came with firmware 1.1--not European Enhanced Firmware. Plenty of faults, as many have observed. The device is small, light, and fun, and does not replace a good telephoto lens...

The Zeiss SFL 8x30 compared with select current 8x30/8x32 roof binoculars

Where would that place the KOWA 8x33 which Allbinos placed just above Conquest?

Vortex Customer Service 10 out of 10

Vortex repaired my almost new DB 10x42 eyecup (jammed) and had it back to me in about 10 days. Very pleasant people on the phone.

    Binoculars that take pictures

I see that in Europe there is a Canon PS Zoom with Enhanced Firmware. Is it a significant upgrade?

    My only four hand-held binoculars

Maybe we keep a Vortex or two for guests, whom we do not trust with our Leica?

    Zeiss SFL 8x30?

In case this was confusing, I was citing another's thread. I still do not know why the admirable 8x32 is now chosen over the admirable10x32, which was chosen back then, except for the wider FOV.

    Zeiss SFL 8x30?

A year ago: I tried the NL 8x42 and personally had quite a bit of glare in the bottom of the FOV, so I gave up on it. I tried all the new 32 mm alpha's including the SF 8x32, SF 10x32, NL 8x32 and the NL 10x32, and they are all superb. They are all overall some of the best binoculars for birding...

    Swarovski prices going up 7%?

My opthamologist told me I would not see any difference unless I had cataract surgery.

    Value sweet spot?

No argument from me on the pricey and marginal pleasures of the elderly. Even the best mass produced optical instruments are usually slated for obsolescence. Not really a solid investment for your grandchildren, unless you place the box on the shelf and it becomes a rare collectible,

    Value sweet spot?

I enjoy the discussion, but I understand "afford" more than "it." Is "it" "optical nirvana" or the fleeting pleasure of ownership ("superb build")? I wonder because the elderly enthusiast who can afford alphas is often unable to see "pure perfection" or outlive a choice and well-cared for MIC...

    Zeiss SFL 8x30?

If I unscrew the eyecups and insert o-rings to extend the eyecup (i.e., reduce depth of its seating) to reduce blackouts/beans without eyeglasses, I assume that means I will lose on the other end, if I use the binoculars with, say, sunglasses. Anyone have actual experience with this method...

    GPO 8x32 $320 at Dvor.

Looking for an 8x32 in the $300 range

Kowa 8x33 eyecup diameter is a little wider than rounded Conquest 10x42 and flat GPO HD 8x42, but is narrower than the flat/hard eyecups of Nikon AE 7x35. I use the wide FOV Nikon with glasses, but not comfortably without, since, without glasses, I have to balance it on my nose, not pressed...

Looking for an 8x32 in the $300 range

The eyecups of the heavy-ish Nikon AE 7x35 porros are about 45mm, as I recall. They pinch if you have a narrow IPD and a prominent nose. Any similar experience reported with the 44.5mm eyecups of the heavy-ish Oberwerk SE 8x32?

I hope I live long enough to find out.

Maven C2 7x28. Pretty sweet compacts.

Minimal IPD is 58mm. Rules them out for me even at current price of 20% off.
