    No love for Steiner?

I have an original pair of Skyhawks 8x42 that I bought used some 10 years ago. I recently compared them to a lot of similar binoculars at our local reserve and the manager thought I'd need to spend over £1000 to get a similar image.

    Watching waders in South England

Hi MK Have you tried Rainham Marshes? Its not too far from you, and in the winter they have a lot of waders that are easy to see from their hides. Even during the summer they have a lot of breeding Redshanks and Lapwings.

    Why I photograph in JPG

An interesting thread, and I suppose it really depends on how good your camera is a creating the jpegs in the first instance. I shot Canon digital for years - Raw only for all my work (weddings and portraits) and had my workflow down to a tee, with great results. Last year I switched to Fuji (an...

    A lunchtime first!

Popped home for some lunch just now, and not only were there a pair of Goldfinches on the feeder, but a Goldcrest bobbing about in the bush behind. Must have been there for a good 10 mins. Seeing we live in Ilford (east London suburb), i was very pleased to see Goldcrest.

Making a living in Bird Photography

As an ex-professional photographer, the main area to earn money is if people are involved. Weddings and portraits are best - do the bird photography as an escape and keep presenting it to a variety of magazines. You might sell some stuff!

Canon 7D Mk ii image quality - what am I doing wrong?

John I found that I had to micro adjust all my lenses to get them pin sharp. There are various methods on the internet, but I used a metre / yard ruler, angled it at 30 degrees. With the camera on a tripod say 3 metres away, I picked a point on the ruler, say 18" as the focus point, and then it...

    Anybody using the XT-1

I sold all my canon gear last year and bought the X-T1, X-T10, plus 5 lenses. I shot 3 weddings over the summer, plenty of events (conferences etc) and will be taking it to Sierra Leone at he end of Feb, and Zimbabwe at the end of March. I'm trying to work out how to get the new XF 100-400 lens...

    Fujifilm 100-400mm

I have an X-T1 and the X-T10, plus 5 lenses, having sold all my Canon dslr kit last year. This lens will complete the kit. I've reduced the total weight of my kit to less than 1/3rd of the Canon outfit, and my shoulders are very thankful. Cant wait to buy this!
