Identification
37 cm (14½ in)
- Green with darker green edges
- Bright blue forehead
- Blue and white crown
- Bright yellow markings on the crown, cheeks and ears
- Wings red or red and yellow shoulder patches
- Iris:
- Male: Orange-yellow
- Female: Orange-red
Distribution
South America: found in Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina.

There are 2 subspecies[1]:
- A. a. aestiva:
- Eastern Brazil (Maranhão and Pará to Rio Grande do Sul)
- A. a. xanthopteryx:
Habitat
Forest, woodlands, savanna and palm groves.
Behaviour
Diet
The diet consists of seeds and fruit from a variety of plants.
Breeding
They nest in tree cavities. The clutch consists of 3-5 white oval eggs which are incubated by the female for about 27 days. The young fledge about 60 days later.
