Identification
20cm (30 cm including tail)
Male
- Black head, back and breast band
- White underparts
- Featherless throat which turns bright pinkish-red during the breeding season
- Elongated, black tail feathers
Female
- Upperparts brown streaked
- Pale breast band
- Narrow brown stripes at the end of the tail feathers.
Distribution
Locally in eastern Paraguay, southern Brazil, Uruguay and northern Argentina
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Pastisales. Wet grasslands associated with marshes, and requires fairly tall grasses of between 1 and 1.5 metres for breeding.
Behaviour
The diet includes invertebrates.
