Identification

Length 22 cm. Large and robust appearance distinctive. Thick broad bill, broad yellow eyering and yellow ear coverts diagnostic.

Distribution

Malay Peninsula to Sumatra and Borneo.

And southern Thailand

Habitat

Forest, forest edges, plantations and even gardens.

Behaviour

Frequents the canopy, gathering in flowering trees. Bold and aggressive and will chase away other nectarivores from food sources. Perches on bare branches. Voice: a loud disyllabic chi-chip.
