Identification
White neck mark that does not go all the way round the back and white patch in front of the eye. Pinky-bronze speculum which is more visible in flight.

This is a monotypic species.
Speculanas vs Anas
This species has alternatingly been placed in these two genera. With Clemens in the 2009 updates following SACC and Howard&Moore to place it in Speculanas, Opus has followed as well.
Habitat
Rivers, ponds and smaller lakes.
Behaviour
Male gives a soft whistle, the female a more nasal sound
