Orange Dove - BirdForum Opus

Ptilinopus victor

Identification

20 cm. Golden olive head, elongated bright orange "hair-like" body feathers. The legs, bill and orbital skin are blue-green and the iris is white. The female is a dark green bird with black tail and orange-yellow undertail coverts. The young resembles female.

Distribution

Fiji. Found on Taveuni, Vanua Levu and nearby islands. A further race P.v. aureus is found on Qamea near Taveuni and is said to be even brighter orange.

The diet consists mainly of various small fruits, berries, caterpillars and insects.

The female usually lays 1 white egg.
