- Ptilinopus iozonus
Identification
21 cm. Green plumage, large orange patch on the lower breast and belly, small lilac shoulder patch, pale yellow undertail coverts and a grey terminal band on the tail.
Distribution
New Guinea, Aru Islands and western Papuan islands.
Taxonomy
This is a polytypic species[1].
Subspecies
- P. i. iozonus - Aru Islands
- P. i. humeralis - W Papuan islands and lowlands of nw New Guinea
- P. i. iobiensis - Yapen I., n New Guinea, Manam and adjacent islands
- P. i. pseudohumeralis - Central New Guinea (upper Fly River region)
- P. i. finschi - Huon Peninsula and Fly River to se New Guinea
Habitat
Lowland rainforest, secondary forest and mangroves.
Behaviour
Diet includes fruit from forest trees, mainly figs. 1 egg is laid on platform of small sticks high in a forest tree.
